“Best Director” Award from Sundance to TRT Co-production “Klondike”

TRT co-production “Klondike” directed by Maryna Er Gorbach won the “Best Director” award at the Sundance Film Festival, one of the 5 most important festivals in the world.

Awards found their owners at the Sundance Film Festival, organized by the Sundance Institute since 1981. TRT co-production “Klondike” won the “Best Director” award in the “International Competition” section of the festival, which was held online in the US state of Utah between January 20-30.

Continuing their festival journey in the world’s leading film festivals, TRT co-produced films announced their success to the world by winning a total of 44 awards in international festivals in 2021. Films competing in important festivals such as “Cannes Film Festival”, “San Sebastian Film Festival”, “Locarno Film Festival”, “Karlovy Vary Film Festival”, “Tokyo Film Festival” and “Sarajevo Film Festival” have made their mark in international film festivals as well.

Two films co-produced by TRT and supported by TRT will compete at the 72nd Berlin Film Festival, one of the most important film festivals in the world. In the main competition section of the festival, TRT supported “A Piece of Sky” competes, while TRT co-production “Klondike” takes place in the “Panorama” section.

12 Punto 2022 Submissions are Now Open

Submissions for “12 Punto 2022”, which will be held for the 4th time this year by the TRT Directorate of Cinema, started today. Submissions to 12 Punto, Turkey’s largest script development and co-production platform, which is eagerly awaited by everyone interested in cinema, can be made at www.trt12punto.com until 12 February 2022.

Submissions for “12 Punto 2022”, which is the first and only project for the cinema industry in Turkey, have started. The event, which will be held for the 4th time by TRT, will bring together the leading names of Turkish and world cinema this year.

Feature and short film projects will be accepted.

Feature and short film project submissions for “12 Punto 2022” will continue until 23:59 on Saturday, February 12, 2022. Submissions will only be made through the submission form on www.trt12punto.com. After the evaluation of the feature projects by the pre-jury, the 12 finalist projects will be announced on April 12, 2022.

Among the 12 finalists selected by the international jury in the feature film category, TRT Co-Production Award will be given to 3 projects, TRT Pre-Purchase Award to 3 projects and TRT Project Development Award (50,000 TL) to 6 projects.

TRT Short Film Production Award will be given to 12 projects among the short film project submissions. Award-winning project owners will be announced on April 12. In June, script development workshops will be held. The completed short films will be broadcast on TRT 2.

International co-productions in which Turkish producers are partners with low shares (minority co-productions) will also be able to apply for 12 Punto until February 12, 2022. The TRT International Co-Production Award paves the way for Turkish cinema to gain an international identity.

Last year, nearly 500 submissions for long and short feature projects were made.

In 2021, international jury members were Oscar Nominee director of TRT Co-production Quo Vadis Aida, director Jasmila Zbanic, producer of Ken Loach’s films Rebecca O’Brien, Asia Pacific Film Awards President Tracey Vieira, Berlin Film Festival Co-production Market Director Martina Bleis and Sata Cissokho, Purchasing Director of Memento, one of the sales agencies. Last year, nearly 500 feature and short film project submissions were made in 12 Punto.

How does the submission process work for the feature projects in 12 Punto?

An independent pre-jury consisting of 5 members will select the 12 finalist projects among the submissions. The teams of the projects which made it to the finals will hold meetings with a world-renowned script and marketing consultants during the 12 Punto week which will be held in June. Then, they will present their projects to the international jury, which include the most important names of the international cinema industry.

Projects to be applied for 12 Punto must meet the submission requirements for “Feature film projects with a Turkish producer as the main producer”, “International feature film projects with a low share partner of a Turkish producer” and “Short film projects”. Submissions for feature film projects must be made by a production company, and there is no such requirement in the short film category.

The winner of the 2022 TRT EAVE Scholarship is announced

TRT Co-production “Quo Vadis, Aida?” Gets 3 Awards from European Film Academy Awards

TRT Co-production Bosnia and Herzegovina movie “Quo Vadis, Aida?” directed by Jasmila Zbanic received 3 awards in different branches, by the European Film Academy Awards, known as Europe’s Oscars, as “Best Film”, “Best Director” and “Best Actress”.

The 34th European Film Awards ceremony organized by the European Film Academy was held online this year due to the new type of coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The TRT Co-Production “Quo Vadis, Aida?” directed by Jasmila Zbanic, which was awarded the ”Best Film” award”, was also the recipient of the “Best Director” and “Best Actress” awards at the ceremony. The award for ”Best Actor“ was received by Anthony Hopkins for his role ”The Father” in the film.

“Quo Vadis Aida?” describes one of the bloodiest massacres in recent history

The film, which is a joint production of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, Austria, Romania, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, France and Norway, focuses on the Srebrenica massacre in 1995. The film is set in the days of the genocide, when tens of thousands of Bosnians, including women and children, were killed by Serb soldiers in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, at a United Nations base.

What is the EAVE TRT Scholarship?

The cooperation that TRT has signed with EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs), the most important producers network in the world, continues. With this cooperation, a producer from Turkey qualifies for an EAVE TRT Scholarship. The selected producer participates in the 2021 EAVE Producers Workshop, which will last for a year. Then, they graduate from EAVE at the end of a year.

Becoming an EAVE graduate means for a producer to be involved in a network where relationships are maintained with managers of international film organizations, producers from different countries, directors of sales and distribution agencies, and film festivals.

What expenses does EAVE TRT SCHOLARSHIP cover?

The producer selected for the EAVE TRT Scholarship gains the right to attend EAVE meetings and workshops for a year free of charge. These expenses generally cover the following:

  • Application and registration fee
  • Producers Workshop membership fee
  • Conference fee for each workshop (participation in events, full board accommodation)
  • Transportation costs (depending on the city where the EAVE Producers Workshop will be held)

Who can apply for EAVE TRT SCHOLARSHIP?

All producers who are currently working in the film and television industry and wish to increase their knowledge and experience in international co-productions can apply for the EAVE TRT Scholarship. Candidates can apply with a fiction, documentary or TV series project they are developing, or they can apply without a project. Since all meetings and workshops will be held in English, the producer applying for the EAVE TRT Scholarship must be able to speak English at an advanced level. How will be the application process?

Producers who want to apply for EAVE TRT SCHOLARSHİP are required to fill in the Application Form at the links below and send all the necessary documents to 12punto@trt.net.tr between 17 September and 1 October. Applications with missing documents will not be accepted. Applicant producers can confirm that their documents have been received in full at the phone number below. 5 applications will be selected by TRT from among the applications received. EAVE will conduct interviews with the selected candidates and select the producer who wins the EAVE TRT Scholarship in December 2020.

27th Sarajevo Film Festival Winners Announced

The winners were announced at the ceremony held at the Sarajevo National Theatre.

The winners of the Sarajevo Film Festival, held for the 27th time this year, were announced with an award ceremony held at the Sarajevo National Theatre. At the “27th Sarajevo Film Festival” held in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the awards were announced with a ceremony held at the Sarajevo National Theatre. In the festival, where 47 films competed in four different programmes, 9 feature film, 10 short films, 16 documentary film, and 12 in the student films competed for The Heart of Sarajevo Award.

“Hesitation Wound,” directed by Selman Nacar and winner of the TRT Co-Production Award in12 Punto 2021, received the Montenegro Cinelink award in the Cinelink Co-production Market prize (10,000 Euro), where projects in the screenplay stage compete. The film tells the story of lawyer Nesrin, who must confront her conscience at the sentencing hearing of a murder suspect she believes is innocent and has been defending for a long time.

The Cinelink Work in Progress TRT Award, in which films in the editing stage compete, was given to Bosnian filmmaker Aida Begic‘s “A Ballad” as part of the Sarajevo Film Festival. The film is about the story of a Bosnian woman’s daily life and her struggle to hold on to life.

“Great Freedom” by Austrian filmmaker Sebastian Meise won the Best Feature Film, while “Landscape of Resistance” by Serbian director Marta Popivoda won the Best Documentary.

Mate Urgin’s “Everything Ahead,” directed by Croatian Mate Urgin, won the Best Short Film award, while Aleksandru Mironescu‘s “Summer Planning,” directed by Romanian Aleksandru Mironescu, got the Best Student Film award. Turkish director Ahmet Necdet Çupur‘s documentary film “Les Enfants Terribles” won the Sarajevo Film Festival Human Rights Award.

Milica Tomovic of Serbia won Best Director for his film “Celts,” which competed at the festival, and Austrian lead actor Georg Friedrich of the Best Feature Film “Great Freedom” won Best Actor. In this year’s Best Actress category of the festival, Flaka Latifi, Era Balaj and Urata Shabanireceived the award for their roles in the movie “The Hill Where Lionesses Roar.”

The 27th Sarajevo Film Festival, where 18 films had their world premieres, will end tomorrow after the screenings of the award-winning films.
