Şükrü Sim completed his BA at Faculty of Communication and pursued his Master’s degree and PhD at Institute of Social Sciences at Istanbul University in the department of Radio, TV and Cinema.

He was involved in educational activities at various universities between the years 2001 and 2003 in England. At the beginning of 2003, he returned from England and started working as a research assistant at the Department of Radio, TV and Cinema at Faculty of Communication at Istanbul University. He completed his PhD in 2006 and became an assistant professor in 2007. He earned his titles as associate professor in 2013 and professor in 2020.

He has four books, a large number of articles and chapters on media and cinema published in scientific journals and books. Sim produced not only theoretical but also visual works. He directed and undertook the production of documentaries “Su Medeniyeti İstanbul” (Water Civilization Istanbul) and “Şiirsel Kent Mardin” (Lyrical City Mardin), which have been broadcast on TRT. In 2009, Lyrical City Mardin won the second place in Istanbul International Environment Film Festival, which took place under the auspices of Ministry of Culture.

Between the years 2017 and 2019, he was a member of Cinema Support Board at General Directorate of Cinema, Ministry of Culture. Prof. Dr. Şükrü Sim has been lecturing on cinema and media in undergraduate, master’s and PhD programs at Department of Cinema at Faculty of Communication, Istanbul University, where he also holds the position of vice dean.
