TRT co-production “Triangle of Sadness”, the new movie by the Golden Palm Award-winning director Ruben Östlund, has been selected for the main competition section of the 75th Cannes Film Festival.

The films that will compete for the “Golden Palm” and other awards at the Cannes Film Festival, the most prestigious film festival in the world, have been announced. Swedish director Ruben Östlund’s TRT co-production “Triangle of Sadness” will compete in the main competition section of the Cannes Film Festival, which will be held for the 75th time this year between 17-28 May.

The last film of the Palme d’Or winner Ruben Östlund’s TRT co-production is at Cannes

One of the most important directors of our time, Ruben Östlund’s new film, awarded the Palme d’Or, has become one of the 18 films selected for the main competition of the Cannes Film Festival. Ruben Östlund continues his perspective he had in the films “Tourist” and “Kare”, in which he achieved international success, in the film “Triangle of Sadness”. As in his previous films, Östlund satirizes human nature in this film, and builds the black comedy world in the film on the absurd situations of the upper middle class and upper classes. Co-production of Turkey, Sweden, France, USA, England, Switzerland and Greece, “Triangle of Sadness” tells the story of young modeling couple Carl and Yaya on a super luxury cruise with billionaire passengers. After a storm, Carl and Yaya are stranded on a desert island with a group of billionaires and one of the ship’s cleaners. “Triangle of Sadness” is a satirical film where the hierarchy is suddenly turned upside down and roles and classes are reversed.

International success of TRT co-productions continues

TRT continues its successful international co-productions. Prior to that, being the co-producer of the films “Quo Vadis, Aida?” by Bosnian director Jasmila Zbanic and “It Must Be Heaven” by Palestinian director Elia Süleiman, TRT this time co-produced the Golden Palm Award-winning director Ruben Östlund’s long-awaited new project “Triangle of Sadness”. TRT co-production “Quo Vadis, Aida?”, had its world premiere at the 77th Venice Film Festival and won awards by competing in many festivals. The film, which was nominated in the “Best International Film” category at the 94th Academy Awards, won the “Best Film”, “Best Director” and “Best Actress” awards at the European Film Awards, known as Europe’s Oscar. TRT’s co-production “It Must Be Heaven” competed at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival and won a special mention and FIPRESCI awards.
