“Best Director” Award from Sundance to TRT Co-production “Klondike”

TRT co-production “Klondike” directed by Maryna Er Gorbach won the “Best Director” award at the Sundance Film Festival, one of the 5 most important festivals in the world.

Awards found their owners at the Sundance Film Festival, organized by the Sundance Institute since 1981. TRT co-production “Klondike” won the “Best Director” award in the “International Competition” section of the festival, which was held online in the US state of Utah between January 20-30.

Words of praise from the competition jury

“Klondike”, which made its premiere at the “International Competition”, the main competition section of the Sundance Film Festival, where only 10 films from all over the world are selected each year, received the appreciation of the competition jury. The international competition jury of the festival presented the “Best Director Award” to Maryna Er Gorbach on the grounds that “a film that enlivens the viewer with its meticulously formed frames, elegantly woven story and beautiful performances of the actors”.

European premiere will be in Berlin

The film, which was shot by Ukrainian, Turkish, Czech, Bosnian and Georgian teams, will have its European premiere in the “Panorama” section of the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival, which will take place on February 10-20 with the participation of the team. The Ukraine-Turkey co-production film, which won the TRT International Co-Production Award in 12 Punto 2020, is directed by Maryna Er Gorbach and co-produced by Mehmet Bahadır Er. Starting with Irka, a pregnant woman living on the Ukraine-Russia border, who does not leave her home despite the siege of her village by separatist groups, “Klondike” is about Irka and her family finding themselves at the center of an international plane crash disaster.

12 Punto 2022 Submissions are Now Open

Submissions for “12 Punto 2022”, which will be held for the 4th time this year by the TRT Directorate of Cinema, started today. Submissions to 12 Punto, Turkey’s largest script development and co-production platform, which is eagerly awaited by everyone interested in cinema, can be made at www.trt12punto.com until 12 February 2022.

Submissions for “12 Punto 2022”, which is the first and only project for the cinema industry in Turkey, have started. The event, which will be held for the 4th time by TRT, will bring together the leading names of Turkish and world cinema this year.

Feature and short film projects will be accepted.

Feature and short film project submissions for “12 Punto 2022” will continue until 23:59 on Saturday, February 12, 2022. Submissions will only be made through the submission form on www.trt12punto.com. After the evaluation of the feature projects by the pre-jury, the 12 finalist projects will be announced on April 12, 2022.

Among the 12 finalists selected by the international jury in the feature film category, TRT Co-Production Award will be given to 3 projects, TRT Pre-Purchase Award to 3 projects and TRT Project Development Award (50,000 TL) to 6 projects.

TRT Short Film Production Award will be given to 12 projects among the short film project submissions. Award-winning project owners will be announced on April 12. In June, script development workshops will be held. The completed short films will be broadcast on TRT 2.

International co-productions in which Turkish producers are partners with low shares (minority co-productions) will also be able to apply for 12 Punto until February 12, 2022. The TRT International Co-Production Award paves the way for Turkish cinema to gain an international identity.

Last year, nearly 500 submissions for long and short feature projects were made.

In 2021, international jury members were Oscar Nominee director of TRT Co-production Quo Vadis Aida, director Jasmila Zbanic, producer of Ken Loach’s films Rebecca O’Brien, Asia Pacific Film Awards President Tracey Vieira, Berlin Film Festival Co-production Market Director Martina Bleis and Sata Cissokho, Purchasing Director of Memento, one of the sales agencies. Last year, nearly 500 feature and short film project submissions were made in 12 Punto.

How does the submission process work for the feature projects in 12 Punto?

An independent pre-jury consisting of 5 members will select the 12 finalist projects among the submissions. The teams of the projects which made it to the finals will hold meetings with a world-renowned script and marketing consultants during the 12 Punto week which will be held in June. Then, they will present their projects to the international jury, which include the most important names of the international cinema industry.

Projects to be applied for 12 Punto must meet the submission requirements for “Feature film projects with a Turkish producer as the main producer”, “International feature film projects with a low share partner of a Turkish producer” and “Short film projects”. Submissions for feature film projects must be made by a production company, and there is no such requirement in the short film category.

The TRT Co-production “Klondike”, directed by Maryna Er Gorbach and co-produced by Mehmet Bahadır Er, will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, one of the most important meeting points of American independent cinema.

TRT Co-production “Klondike” will compete at the Sundance Film Festival, which will be held this year from January 20 to 30, 2022. The Ukraine-Turkey co-produced film will take part in the “International Competition”, the main competition section of the festival, where only ten films from around the world are selected each year.

The Sundance Film Festival, founded in 1981 by the famous actor Robert Redford, is organized annually in January in the US state of Utah by the Sundance Institute. The festival will be held physically this year on January 20-30, 2022.

The film, which begins with the fact that Ira, a pregnant woman living on the Ukraine-Russia border, does not leave her home even though her village is besieged by separatist groups, Ira and her family find themselves at the center of an international plane crash disaster on July 17, 2014. “Klondike”, which was shot in Ukraine by film crews from Ukraine, Turkey, Georgia, Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina in September-October 2020, received the “TRT Minority Co-Production Award” in 12 Punto organized in 2020.
